Autumn Festival
Autumn is the season of festivals. In Adachi-ku, there are many festivals whose origins date back to ancient times. These include:

1) Shimane Hayashi Festival (13th-15th of September): A festival to celebrate traditional folk-art the dates back over 200 years. People wear tradition 'fat-faced' women's masks and 'distorted' male masks do funny dances.

2) The Shikahama Lion Dance Festival (15th of September): Three people dress as lions and dance continuously for four hours.

3) Senju Festival (15th-16th of September): This festival dates back to the Edo Period (1603-1867). Various local community groups parade big portable shrines along the old road to Nikko.

4) Local Festivals (a weekend in mid-September): Local festivals occur throughout Adachi and usually involve portable shrine parades and dancing.
