The Buddhist Saint Koubou established Nishi Arai Daishi in the year 826.On the 21st of every month a fair is held in the area of Nishi Arai Daishi and many people come to visit the temple and stalls.  The first fair of every year is held on the 21st of January and is known as 'Hatsu no Daishi' when many stalls sell 'Daruma Dolls'. The last fair day of every year is held on the21st of December and is known as 'Osame no Daishi'.
