Student Exchange
One of the most successful and enriching activities as a result of the establishment of the Sister City relationship has been the student exchange program. Since 1986, 320 Adachi students have visited Perth and 120 Belmont students have visited Japan.
In late July of each year, Adachi sends 39 students (one student from each high school in Adachi) with five adults to Belmont for a six day Delegation. The students are home-hosted with families, with preferences being given to the Belmont Delegation members. During their visit, they may visit Kewdale and Belmont High Schools, the Belmont Museum, the Oasis Leisure Centre, an Australian wildlife centre, Fremantle and Kings Park with the highlight being the overnight camp stay at Munthoola Farm in Williams. The Belmont students accompany the Adachi students to the farm, giving them them all the opportunity to build upon their new-found friendships. They are introduced to Australian farm life and plenty of activities are provided.
There is also a Bush Dance arranged
for the Adachi and Belmont students, together with their families to let
their hair down! It is expected that the Adachi students will see other
places of interest with their host families, in their free time.
The Belmont Student Delegation visits
Adachi in late September/early October each year, for ten days to renew
friendships and participate in a similar program of educational and recreational
activities. All the students are home-hosted in pairs with Adachi
families and the Tour Leader and Chaperones have the option of being home-hosted
individually or stay in a hotel. Most of the adult members of the delegations
have enjoyed living within a Japanese household, where they too can experience
new food, customs and culture. The students may visit museums, Hanahata
Memorial Garden, schools, Tokyo Disneyland and had a camp at Mt Fuji.
